Gentlemen Only

I am having a hard time figuring out feminism and where I stand on it. I feel like I can relate to the main character in “I was a Teenage Feminist” trying to find where I fit in. Ever since I was little I have carried the motto “I do what I want!” With this motto, nothing has really held me back. All through Junior High and High School I played golf, which was a sport that was started strictly for gentlemen. Many people viewed me as the crazy girl playing a boys sport. However it never fazed me, I continued to play and even give the boys a run for their money. Throughout my golfing career I have learned that if you want to be respected on the course, show that you can play and display your confidence. I felt that power feminism supported this idea, to not view myself as a victim but go and fight for it!

During class this week we had a discussion about same-sex parenting. I realized that I had provided information that could not be cited. After class I had a curiosity about the subject. I was able to find this video that made me realize a child raised by parents of the same sex can turn out just fine; I had let my personal values and opinions get in the way. This video clarified the topic, and helped me understand more about it.
