SHOWS

I love nothing more than watching television shows. Whenever I am feeling stressed out or under the weather I turn to television. It is a place that my brain can just stop thinking and I can focus on what is going on, on the screen. This is not a new habit; I have had it since I was little. Watching television has definitely impacted how I view close relationships and how I act in them. As I read the chapter I realized that I follow a more masculine pattern when it comes to close relationships, a more dismissing avoid-ant tactic. When looking back at all of the show I watch I realized it is the pattern of the female leads, that they, to an extent, are also more masculine in the relationship. I feel like it has molded my sense of relationships. It is insane how much media affects us not only in the moment but in long term as well. When reading Mark's statement on page 210, all I could think was AMEN, in my previous relationships I have felt the same, why do we need to talk about it forever, instead we should live it. I feel like I understand myself better in relationships now, and know what I need to work on to make them more successful.

  1. I loved the day we watched FRIENDS in class, and episodes of the office. I think about gender in television a lot when I watch SCRUBS, I don't know if that's one of your shows as well but I love it and I love that JD is this feminine guy and identifies with feminist views but his sexuality is never an issues, it's never questioned or implied he just is who he is. I love that.
