For my service learning project I am
working with Dr. Huber on developing a summer camp for girls that focuses on technology. I have two passions in life,
technology and helping young people. As I have
researched cyber bullying I have been able to see how preventable it is. I have
spent a few hours watching movies on cyber bullying, as well as YouTube videos. I came across this one, and
was even more empowered by it. I feel the world needs to know the damage it can
cause. The video tells the tale of a gorgeous girl who sends a naked photo of herself to her boyfriend. Her boyfriend abuses
it and forwards it to many. In the end she takes her life because of it. People
in general need to become better educated about technologies and their uses.
That is so terrible. You're service learning project sounds so great. Lately Ellen Degeneres has done several episodes about bullying and all the harm it can cause. It's so sad to think that people think they are so alone in these situations when they aren't. And it's so much more vicious and back-biting than that of any other bullying because it's not face to face so kids think they can say anything and get away with it. :( I would love to help out with your project if you need anything for it just let me know what I can do.
I will have to look into what Ellen has done! I know it is awful what it can cause people to do. At the elementary school I work at, I have kids asking me if I have facebook, every time my heart drops, because they are so young and should not even have one!!! I will let you know if I need help!
