I Was In A Dreamworld....

I was appalled after watching DreamWorlds Three. I had mentioned in class that I was disappointed in how I had viewed the media and how I wanted to be like those girls who danced provocatively. Ever since I was little I wanted to grow up to be a dancer. I never thought anything about it, except how good the girls looked dancing, the money that surrounded them, and most of all the men. I thought it was the life...As I have gotten older I have realized it is not a practical one for me. I did not realize how much it had affected me and still is though. It relates the Third Party Theory that was discussed in my Media Smarts class. It is the idea that the viewer does not think that what they are seeing will affect them, but it WILL affect someone else. Well, I think it was pretty evident in this movie, that it is altering people whether they know it or not. I am so glad that I was able to see this video and have my eyes opened to what the music industry is teaching the youth of our nation...

  1. I agree Claire. I thought it was interesting what the media exposes us too and that the way we dress, act and our appearance to others does not matter. Yet at the end of the movie, they had statistics of how many men and women were effected. Our whole society is drawn to it and affected by it and yet so many people support it by watching it, even if the video is 3 minutes and the scene is small. No harm done. This movie proved it does make a difference and I am glad they are addressing it. The sad reality is that money speaks louder so usually outrules effects on society.

  2. Claire I completely agree with you on this one. This video was shocking in so many different ways. The thing that really got me about this video is the incident in central park. I couldn't believe how those men were treating those women. Its like they were viewing them as animals and pieces of meat. But when you compare that to the videos shown on MTV and VH1 and so on, the same things are going on their, except for the fact that the women on TV are enjoying it. I think media has effected our lives in so many different ways, whether we believe it or not. This video opened my eyes and I'm glade that I got to see it as well. But great post!
